  5. Matters Arising from these Minutes.

All matters that required to be addressed were covered later in the agenda.
  6. Commodores Report.

Tony welcomed members to the meeting, especially new members for whom this was their first.
The year, said Tony, was not the best in terms of sailing, but a good year with well attended meetings both on and off the water. He thought the bar-b-que at Davis's Boatyard was good, with a great turnout, good food and drink; and we had gained some new members. The Davis family provided great support. He anticipated we could repeat the event next year, but with a 16.30 start to enable people to go out for the day and join in on their return.
He told us that next year Redclyffe would be holding a Pig Roast in place of our usual bar-b-que and sing along.
We had been invited at ~ £5 per head.
He asked all members to continue doing their best to get new members to join the club. He also asked members to consider taking on some of the club's offices and bring new ideas and benefits.
He hoped that with a little effort from us and some better weather, 2011 could be an even better year for the Club and that he and Debbie looked forward to being with you on the water next year.
  7. Hon Treasurers Report.

Peter had distributed copies of the accounts before lunch. He highlighted the following:
    • The RYA affiliation fee was £96 this year - it would be £100 in 2011
    • Affiliation to PYA was £65
    • The cost of production of The Bulletin was ~£66
    • The Secretaries expenses of ~£180, comprised ~£70 associated with the Newssheet and communications; £109.85 was for a new toner cartridge which should last 3 years.
    • Interest from the business account was a miserable 0.32p. Peter reported that he had enquired if this could be changed to gain more interest, but had been told that this was not possible if we wished to continue with this style of account.
    • A total of £125 in donations for Arthur (Corcoran) had passed through the Club's account.
    • The Club's two drawer filing cabinet had been sold for £20.
Peter felt that for this year, we could leave the annual membership at £15.
    There were no questions.
A proposal by Dave, seconded by Debbie, that the accounts be accepted, was unanimously approved.
  8. Hon Secretary's Report.

Peter asked that in addition to the reports from PYA and the RYA, he could briefly review the Club's Year. This was agreed.

    The Club Year.

Peter summarised the events throughout the Club Year, highlighting the following:-
    • 18 members met for the planning meeting in January; please start thinking about 2011!
    • As the weather on April 4th was a 'bit iffy', Alan led 6 members on a walk to Chapman's Pool followed by lunch at 'The Scott Arms'. Thanks Alan.
    • On the May Holiday, members rafted up with Pat (Corcoran) and friends aboard 'Corky' to scatter Arthur's ashes in South Deep. 'Windrush' and 'Giorsal' met in Cowes on a wet start to the Spring Holiday weekend, but on the following day they enjoyed a visit to Osborne House and meals in 'The Anchor'.
    • The mid - June bar-b-que was Dave's birthday and a dozen or so members enjoyed celebrating with him on the banks of the river at Wareham. The bar-b-que in Davis's boatyard on Aug 17th was a great success with 16 members and some pontoon holders joining in. The event was supported by the Davis Family and we gained some new members!
    • A successful 'raft up' in Studland was followed by a very civilised Sunday lunch in Poole YC over the August Holiday weekend. Thanks Alan.
    • The bar-b-que and sing-along at Redclyffe on Sept 18th had a changed format; next year it would be different.
    • Oct 9th and the annual bike ride around Arne. Again very successful with lunch at The Halfway House and the surprise that went with it. Thanks again Maureen, Tony, Moyra et al.
    • 16 members met on Poole Quay on Oct 31st to discover the delights of Olde Poole, followed by lunch at The Antelope.
    • Today - The Club AGM! Thanks all for coming!
So all in all, a good year!

    Report from PYA.

Peter continued and outlined some of the items highlighted at the PYA meetings, although these had been reported through the regular newssheets. These were:-
    • The new Twin Sail Bridge was progressing and the lights for this, together with those on the existing bridge, would shortly be converted to be IALA compliant.
    • Sea horses and eel grass in Studland has been much aired but PYA has joined an alliance, in which the RYA and PHC are also involved, to ensure continuing anchoring rights.
    • PYA managed to achieve a significant reduction in charges in the harbour for some boats for 2010.
    • Through PYA, we were able to comment on the proposed changes in Yarmouth.
    • Discussions on the proposed wind farm off the Dorset coast are very active. PYA with PHC and the RYA are concerned about navigation rights.
    • Jet skiers are being taken to court and fined over speeding; the Harbour Master is introducing a programme of education to try to stop this excess speed.
    • The 'grand plan' for a Marine Centre for Poole was outlined. Permission or a new marina in the RoRo1 berth has been granted.
    • Recreational charges will increase by 6.6% next year.
    • The proposed Marine Conservation Zone was outlined and was not expected to have a significant impact on our sailing.

    Report from The RYA.

    • As mentioned earlier, support is being given to maintaining navigation rights through any proposed wind farm, not just for us, but all around the coast.
    • They have been supporting leisure sailor's rights with the proposed Poole Harbour Revision Orders; support is also given for maintaining our rights in the MCZ.
    • Looking after our interests in the proposed e-borders.
    • Red diesel - the RYA have kept us informed and battled to have a system to make sure safety isn't compromised by having it widely available.
    • Together with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, they have arranged to have the disposal of used flares made easier.
    • They have entered the fray over flares and EPIRB - they recommend you should still carry flares!
    • They still warn that light emitting diodes are not up to the European Standard for navigation lights.
A proposal by John (Cosier) seconded by Sandra, that this report be accepted, was approved by the meeting.
  9. Presentation of the Presidents Cup.

Peter introduced John and Bron (Chaplin) to the meeting and asked John to announce their choice.
John reviewed the history of the cup since its inception in 1998. The most entries in any one year he said, were 5 and the least 2. Each year there was always something worthy of the award and all were a great pleasure to read. Some stalwarts entered every year, some just now and again and a review of past Bulletins found a range of stories told. For example, in 1998, Phil and Janet Morton told how Denver and Wendy rescued them after engine failure; in 1999 Marion and Geoff got involved with Sailability in Cowes, Gary and Carol sped off to Falmouth in a power boat and John and Maureen had a much more sedate trip in a little wooden gaffer.
In 2000, Gary and Carol reported on their exploits when taking Carisma to The Channel Islands to see the eclipse while Sheila (Collyer) told of their first trip in Pineapple Poll. In 2001 Peter told of a trip to The Solent, Geoff and Marion finally made it across The Channel after 20 years and Dorothy (Noble) told of taking Courtship to the Med. 2002 was a busy year when John, Alison and Jonathan (Palmer) told of trail sailing their Parker 21, Wendy (Dean) told of crossing to Cherbourg and Keith and Wendy (Pike) took Sundance through the French canals. This was just the early years continued John; lots of trips and events were written about. John asked people to continue adding to this rich history.
In reviewing this year's entries, John said that Pat (Stanaway) told us of 'A Quiet Weekend' and showed that tales need not be long. Moyra and Roger told of introducing their friends to boating with a few days on The Broads in 'Conversion of a Landlubber'. Peter wrote of his 'Best Made Plans', but John would not divulge the story, telling people they would have to wait until The Bulletin was published in the Spring, before awarding Peter The Cup for an 'interesting tale well told'.
John and Bron very generously gave each entrant a 'bottle of red'. (Thank you John and Bron!)
  10. Election of Officers.

Peter reported that he had received nominations for the following:-
    CommodoreTony Raven
    Vice CommodoreMoyra Gregory
    Rear CommodoreSandra King
    SecretaryPeter Stanaway
    TreasurerPeter Stanaway
There being no other nominations, a proposal by Dave, seconded by Roger, that these be elected en bloc, was approved unanimously. The working committee would be formed by those members wishing to attend meetings.
  11. Date for the 2011 Planning Meeting.

The Date of 22nd January 2011 was agreed. Tony provisionally booked The Black Bear for the meeting, but other venues would be investigated before this booking was confirmed.
  12. Any Other Business.

Peter displayed a poster of the 'Flotilla of Lights' event on Poole Quay on the 3rd December - Tony said that he and Debbie would be going and that 'Windrush' would be in Poole Yacht Haven on that evening. Members were welcome to join them.
Peter displayed pamphlets on the new IALA signals for the control of traffic through the bridges in Poole; Poole Harbour Special Protection and Bird Areas and the Kitesurfers Code of Conduct.
There being no other business, Tony thanked members for their support and declared the meeting closed ~15.15.
