Red diesel

Red diesel is still legal on The Continent, but it will be necessary to keep your receipts showing appropriate duty has been paid. You can also download a letter of explanation in German, French and Dutch - for their customs - on

www.rya.org.uk/KnowledgeBase/legal/reddiesel/Pages/Goingabroad.aspx.

Discharges in the Netherlands.

'Black Water' (toilet water) discharge, is now illegal in inland lakes in the Netherlands. Further info at www.vuilwater.info/brochures and www.vuilwater.info/vertaling.

Spanish Taxes.

Info on taxes involved when keeping your boat in Spain can be found at www.rya.org.uk/KnowledgeBase/boatingabroad/boatingabroadmembers/Pages/spain.aspx

Drinking Afloat.

The RYA are not happy with the Dept. Of Transport over alcohol limit draft regs. Apparently no recent studies show any association between alcohol consumption and water transport accidents for recreational boaters. The RYA claims there is no problem, so why legislate? How is to be enforced?

e-borders.

Most opinion is against the method - for the practical reasons of access to computers on a small boat and internet resource providers in marinas - to update last minute cruise details. E-borders are expected to come into force for 2014.
