PHC News

Not strictly within the harbour, but Studland! A buoyed area 100m x 100m, was due to be established by the 6th of Sept. just off South Beach, centered about 50038.63'N 01056.33'W. The position of the buoys marking the area has now been confirmed in a revised Local Notice to Mariners, as that given in last months' NS
The buoys will thus be in positions:-

 LatLong
SW50°38.61'N01°56.37'W
SE50°38.61'N01°56.28'W
NE50°38.66'N01°56.28'W
NW50°38.66'N01°56.37'W
Two additional buoys will mark the centre.
This will form part of the Seahorse Studies and we are asked to avoid the entering the buoyed area.

Second Bridge.

Tenders for the build are expected by the end of this month. Building is expected to start in February 2010 with completion after 20 months!

Bridge opening times.

The 12.30 bridge lift is to be re-instated from 5th Oct (Temporarily put at 12.00 earlier in the year).

Harbour Revision Order.

Poole Harbour Commissioners are seeking the support of local MP's to progress the HRO.

Access to Long Island.

Dorset County Council have now considered the application by The Rempstone Estate to have the definitive map of Long Island modified to prevent public access. Dorset County Council have agreed with The Rempstone Estate — with little regard to past evidence it seems to me - that there should be no access by the public to the hinterland of Long island. At least, I think that is the position. The letter telling me this was not written in plain English, but Council minute speak and after wading through 30+ pages of minutes on this one topic, the conclusion was no clearer.
