Hengistbury Head Walk. A smaller number than perhaps expected, but it was early in the year, enjoyed a very pleasant walk at Hengistbury. A slightly misty damp start gave way to a nice walking day by 11.30 and we were able to sit looking out to sea to have our picnic lunch – but it did cool a little during lunch!

Harbour News

Cobb’s Quay is holding a Boat Jumble on Saturday 14th April – from early morning.

Poole Bridge will be closed overnight to marine traffic on Wednesday the 18th April.

The 10kn speed restrictions are again imposed from April 1st in the harbour and to 1400m beyond South Haven point.

News from Further Afield.

Last year we had a warning of fatalities due to carbon monoxide poisoning from a boat with engines idling in a marina. The BoatCOSafe campaign, want the Government to make the installation of CO monitors in inland boat mandatory. Could this extend to all recreational boats?

Plans for increasing the number of walk ashore berths at Lymington Quay have increased to 46. Other improvements are also planned – but completion is not expected until 2020!

Beaulieu Boat Jumble is to take place from 10.00 to 16.00 on Sunday 22nd April

You may recall, that last year there was an opportunity to sign a petition seeking tighter control of fishing buoy markers – ‘entanglements’. This petition only gathered 10,700 signatures in the 6months allowed, so hasn’t gained the 100,000 needed for the Government to take it further. Considering the number of incidents, the Government believes there are already sufficient rules in place covering the marking of fishing gear. Continued vigilance needed!

Dredging will take place at Horner Sailing Club and Fort Blockhouse in Portsmouth Harbour during April and May.
