Club News. At my request, General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) were on the agenda at the recent PYA meeting. (The RYA Power-point presentation on this topic on their web-site, is very helpful!) My words of introduction raised eyebrows all around the table as no one seems to have thought much about it – they will apply to ALL sailing/Yacht Clubs! They come into force in May, so more of that when we have worked out the exact wording required to apply it to our Club Membership.

Harbour News. Town Bridge works are now reported to be complete and the bridges lifting schedule and controlling lights are as published in LNtM 25/2016. i.e. a return to hourly openings.

The South Quay Development Special mark has now been removed (this guarded the southern extremity of the quay during works)

For those hardy winter sailing souls from Holes Bay, there are diving operations on Port of Poole and Town Quays until mid-March and passing boats are asked to keep well clear and at slow speed.

Report from PYA. At the recent meeting, we had an in-depth report of what the RYA SW Region can do for us; I am not sure many of those around the table were terribly convinced (distance of travel!) – we have a PYA member who attends RYA SW meetings on behalf of all clubs affiliated to PYA and who reports back.

The PYA affiliation fee remains the same for 2018 – £68.

June 16/17th is likely to be a very busy weekend in Poole Harbour, with 3 big open meetings taking place – but in different parts of the harbour or Poole Bay.

Consideration is being given to developing the Sydenhams wood yard to include a small marina. No details at present, but PYA were asked to comment on the proposal and expressed concern at the possibility of traffic joining at right-angles to the stream – together with prevailing cross winds – in the pool between the bridges when potentially full of boats. Cobbs Quay Berth Holders Association do not at present raise any objections; but Davis’s haven’t been consulted. During the development stage, large vessels could be manoeuvring in the pool. Development of the old Power Station Site is also being considered.
